President Obama put in his two cents, calling the rapper a "jackass"

Everyone from Miley Cyrus to 50 Cent to various politicians has weighed in on the Kanye West/ Taylor Swift incident at the 2009 Video Music Awards. Even President Obama has expressed his feelings on the matter, and now former President Jimmy Carter is sharing his thoughts about what happened.

According to CNN, Carter said that what West did was "completely uncalled for," adding that "his punishment was to appear on the new Jay Leno show."

The former president was speaking at a town hall meeting at Emory University in Georgia, where he's been a professor for more than 25 years.

West has since apologized several times about upstaging Swift at the show, even calling her after her appearance on "The View" to try to make things right again.

On Monday, President Obama put in his two cents, calling the rapper a "jackass" in an off-the-record conversation about which ABC correspondent Terry Moran tweeted, although he subsequently deleted the tweet. A spokesperson for ABC was later prompted to release a statement apologizing for reporting on the president's off-the-record comments.

"In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview," explained the spokesperson. "This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again." The White House reportedly had no comment on the incident.
